New Queen’s Counsel appointment

Ampersand’s Michael Stuart has been appointed Queen’s Counsel.

Michael’s appointment was announced along with 13 others by Her Majesty the Queen on the recommendation of First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

Michael’s appointment brings the total number of silks at Ampersand to 26, who practice across our full spectrum of areas of practice and expertise. Everyone at Ampersand wishes Michael continuing success at the bar.

Michael is a former Advocate Depute and Standing Junior Counsel to the Scottish Government and will continue to practice at the senior bar across his core areas of interest which include general commercial and property disputes, family law, professional negligence and personal injury cases.

The rank of Queen’s Counsel is generally reserved for those who have distinguished themselves in practice in the Supreme Courts. Advocates and Solicitors with Rights of Audience in the Supreme Courts are eligible to apply to the Lord Justice General, Scotland’s senior judge. Before making nominations to the First Minister, the Lord Justice General consults other judges, the Lord Advocate, the Dean of the Faculty of Advocates and the President of the Law Society of Scotland.
