Ampersand Advocates welcome Carla Fraser and Dominic Scullion

Ampersand is delighted to welcome Carla Fraser and Dominic Scullion the stable, following their call to the Bar today. In possibly a historical first, they called at a ceremony in Parliament Hall in Parliament House, with social distancing measures being observed due to ongoing Government advice. Both come to the Bar having previously been Solicitor Advocates, with a wealth of experience between them.

Carla Fraser
Carla was admitted as a solicitor in 2004 and became a Solicitor Advocate in 2014. She came to the Bar from Clyde & Co where she was a Senior Associate. Over the course of her career Carla has focussed primarily on civil litigation. She has an interest in public law, civil liberties and human rights and has considerable experience in all kinds of reparation work and in defending complex personal injury cases. She has also handled contractual, procurement, commercial and property related disputes such as property damage and nuisance claims and has a particular interest in the law of nuisance. However, she also has experience of criminal defence work and previously served as a Procurator Fiscal Depute. Prior to coming to the Bar, she regularly appeared in court. She has conducted appeals, civil jury trials, criminal trials, proofs, debates and opposed motions including urgent motions for interim orders.

Dominic Scullion
Dominic calls to the Bar having qualified as a solicitor in 2012 and as a solicitor advocate in 2016. His principal areas of practice are public law, health & safety, and reparation. He has acted in judicial reviews, statutory appeals and regulatory proceedings, and has advised on devolution issues, ECHR compliance, EU law, data protection and freedom of information. He has also acted for insurers, public bodies, private companies and individuals in reparation actions (including ‘stress at work’ claims and damages for compensation as a result of data protection breaches).

On Carla’s and Dominic’s arrival, Susanne Tanner QC, Stable Director said: “I am delighted, both personally and on behalf of Ampersand, to welcome Carla and Dominic as our newest members. I am sure that with their respective backgrounds as successful solicitor-advocates they will hit the ground running, despite the many changes to legal practice which have been necessitated by the response to the pandemic. I am confident that they will rise to the challenges and seize new opportunities which come their way. I wish them both every success with their future careers at the Bar.”
