His court craft is impeccable

Solicitors' recommendation

Michael Stuart QC called to the Bar in 2003 and took silk in 2017. He works in the areas of general commercial litigation, real estate and property law, professional liability, personal injury and cases involving financial provision on divorce. He is a Registered Mediator with the Scottish Mediation Network and the Faculty of Advocates Dispute Resolution Service.

Michael has considerable court experience in both first instance and appeal work. From acting as an Advocate Depute he has amassed considerable experience in the examination and cross-examination of witnesses. Of particular note is his experience in leading and cross-examining expert witnesses.

He held office as a full time Advocate Depute between 2009 and 2013 during which time he prosecuted at trial many serious cases including murder, rape and, at the time, the UK’s largest copyright violation. He maintains an active interest in criminal prosecution work, prosecuting as an ad hoc Advocate Depute. In 2013 he was appointed as a Court Reporter in respect of child matters. In 2015 he qualified as a mediator. In 2016 he was appointed Standing Junior Counsel to the Scottish Government. He is a member of the Faculty of Advocates’ Professional Standards and Civil Procedure Committees.

Before calling to the Bar Michael was a director of one of Scotland’s and Europe’s largest independent cycle businesses where he was instrumental in the successful development and growth of the company’s service related business.

Michael is noted for his “strong advocacy skills”, his  “go-get” attitude and his “great client handling skills”, whether individual or corporate.
