Could you play a part in new lawyers’ group?
It’s up and running, and with the hard work about to start for the Scottish Ethnic Minority Lawyers’ Association (SEMLA), it wants to hear from those who could have a role to play.
The first meeting of SEMLA’s five-strong steering group was held at the Faculty of Advocates, when its aims and objectives were put under the microscope.
“I was delighted to host the first meeting, and many great ideas were shared,” said Usman Tariq, Advocate.
“SEMLA will focus on mentoring, networking and support of all ethnic minority lawyers in Scotland. We are grateful to have received the support of the Faculty and the Law Society of Scotland to date, and look forward to working with both organisations as the association starts to take shape.”
Others on the steering group are: Omar Ali (Harper Macleod), Naeema Sajid (Aberdein Considine), Sheekha Saha (Comhairle nan Eilean Siar) and Imran Bashir (Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service).
“The hard work starts now for the steering group as we begin to make concrete plans for SEMLA’s future, including sponsorship, website development and a formal launch event with speakers from the profession,“ said Mr Tariq.
“We are interested to hear from anyone who can help in achieving its objectives.”
