Tony joins the Bar from Brodies LLP, where he was a partner from 2018. He became a solicitor advocate with extended rights of audience in the civil courts in 1999 and, in 2017, became only the fifth civil solicitor advocate in Scotland to take silk.

His practice centres on professional negligence and construction – both areas in which he was accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist while in practice as a solicitor advocate. He also acts in commercial disputes, company, insolvency and restructuring, real estate litigation, product liability, professional regulatory work, public inquiries and fatal accident inquiries, and trusts and succession, and has experience in alternative dispute resolution.

Tony has appeared in the Court of Session (Inner and Outer House), the Sheriff Appeal Court, the sheriff courts, before professional disciplinary bodies and at courts martial. He has acted for and against professional firms in high-value claims, including Commercial Court proofs and debates on liability, quantum and prescription.

Chambers & Partners 2025 describes him as “confident, super knowledgeable and commercially pragmatic. He distils the situation down with ease and then presents the best options to the client.”

Alongside his practice, Tony sits on the Disciplinary Panel of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) and is Treasurer of the Society of Writers to His Majesty’s Signet (WS Society). For many years he sat on the Law Society of Scotland’s Rights of Audience Committee and taught advocacy on the Society’s rights of audience course. He is also a trustee of the Royal Scots (The Royal Regiment) War Memorial Trust and Scottish Veterans Residences, following 14 years’ service as a Territorial Army officer. He was called to the Bar of England and Wales (Middle Temple) in 2022.

Tony Jones KC said: “After more than 25 years appearing in court as a solicitor advocate, joining the Bar is a natural next step. I’m delighted to be joining Ampersand, and I look forward to working with solicitors and clients across Scotland on professional negligence, construction and commercial disputes.”

Isla Davie KC, Stable Director at Ampersand Advocates, said: “Tony brings a depth of courtroom and commercial experience that few new members can match. His reputation in professional negligence and construction makes him a natural fit for Ampersand, and we’re very pleased to welcome him to the stable.”
