Ampersand QC outlines Faculty’s views on planned redress scheme

Evidence has been given to MSPs by Ampersand’s Una Doherty QC, about the Faculty of Advocates views on the Redress for Survivors (Historical Child Abuse in Care) (Scotland) Bill.

The Scottish Parliament’s Education and Skills Committee is examining the Bill which would make fixed payments of £10,000, £20,000, £40,000 or £80,000, but would also require applicants to abandon civil litigation.

Una chaired the Faculty’s sub-committee that prepared the Faculty’s response to the Bill. The other members of the committee were: Dana Forbes, Jamie Gardiner, Ann MacNeill, Robin Clelland and Simon Crabb.

The Faculty’s written submission to the committee is here. The evidence session featuring Una Doherty, with Kim Leslie, of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL), and Iain Nicol, of the Law Society of Scotland, can be viewed here
